OUR ALUMNI
Preparing Our Students for College & Developing Leaders
While many students have parents, family members, and friends who did not go to college, UDLs change what is possible for these students. Studies show:
UDLs have a graduation rate of nearly 100% in schools that have dropout rates of 30-40%
More than 65% of UDL students go on to a four-year university. These students have an 80% matriculation rate.
According to a survey by the National Forensics League, 64% of U.S. Congress members competed in debate or speech in high school. Debaters are disproportionately represented in leadership ranks in law, business, and the academy. With high expectations, expanded horizons, and advanced skills, urban debaters are equipped to improve their schools, strengthen their communities, and ultimately make a contribution to the nation's leadership.
Join The Los Angeles Metropolitan Debate Alumni Association.
For over a decade, LAMDL has been a presence within schools across the Greater Los Angeles Area, creating educational and community building opportunities for our students. We've seen some of the best and brightest young minds come through our program and go on to succeed in various different avenues and career paths, ranging from STEM to Law to Entertainment, and everything in between.
The LA Metro Debate Alumni Association (LAMDAA), open to ALL LAMDL Alumni, aims to connect and make bridges between different generations of alumni to create a comprehensive network able to to support, enhance, and collaborate amongst itself.
Being part of LAMDAA means getting exclusive access to:
Networking & Community - With over a decade of Alumni filling our ranks, there are many connections just waiting to be made! LAMDAA will be a space for community building efforts (virtual get togethers, a Spring mixer, after tournament hang outs etc) and networking outside of debate focused activities.
Professional Development - LAMDL has partnered with several law firms, insurance groups and similarly minded non-profits to provide our students and Alumni with the best opportunities to succeed in their chosen fields. We also have many Alumni in positions of expertise that want to give back to LAMDL in the form of mentorship and teaching.
Priority Selection for Paid Opportunities - During tournament season, LAMDL often hires out Alumni as judges and coaches for competing High School teams. These opportunities are selective, and our Alumni vast-- joining LAMDAA helps keep you up to date on opportunities before they go to our wider community!
