On April 15th through 17th, LAMDL students from Downtown Magnet High School (Samantha Lemus & Eleanor Skladman) and Stern MASS High School (Diana Alvarez & Samantha Velasco) traveled to San Francisco to compete against the best urban debate teams in the county at the 2016 Urban Debate National Championship.

LAMDL made history by having two teams finish in the top 4 at the national tournament. Downtown Magnet, who sat at 16th seed overall, reached the final round of the tournament losing a very close debate to University Prep from Detroit. Stern MASS, who sat at 5th seed overall, reached the semi-final round and lost a close debate to the league’s very own Downtown Magnet. Eleanor Skladman was honored 14th speaker and Diana Alvarez was honored was 5th speaker.

We are very proud of both teams for their hard work, passion, and successes last weekend. All four debaters are truly representative of what LAMDL stands for.
