LAMDL 2015 Season Opener at USC

Sunday, October 11th, 2015 – Posted by LAMDL

On October 9th and 10th, LAMDL kicked off the 2015-2016 debate season at USC, with the largest number of participants the league had ever hosted at a single tournament. Over 260 students across 17 schools competed on the campus of USC, debating about domestic surveillance policies.

Congratulations to Stern MASS’s Diana Alvarez and Samantha Velasco for placing first in Varsity, Downtown Magnet’s Kate Alejo and Christopher Perez for placing first in Junior Varsity, and Bravo Medical Magnet’s Ricardo De La Torre and Karla Cruz for placing first in Novice. All the debaters claimed an undefeated preliminary record.

Additionally, congratulations to the top 5 speakers in each division. The differences between these speakers are only about a tenth of a speaker point, so the competition for first was very close! These speakers included:

1. Mary Rose Saga from Downtown Magnet
2. Sofia Rizkkhalil from eCALS High School
3. Ricardo De La Torre from Bravo Medical Magnet
4. Dominique Penate from South Gate High School
5. Seth Freeman from Bravo Medical Magnet
